How to become a Family Mediation Supervisor

  1. The applicant must be accredited by the HKMAAL as an Accredited Family Mediator; and
  2. The applicant must demonstrate substantial experience in the field of family mediation. (By way of guidance, an applicant will be considered to have demonstrated such experience if such applicant can show that he/she has acted as a mediator in at least 10 family mediation cases, the parties of which have signed a mediated settlement agreement).

Maintenance of Family Mediation Supervisor Panel Membership

1. To maintain annual Family Mediation Supervisor("FMS") Panel membership, the FMS must have supervised, in the course of the previous membership year ending on 30 June, one or more supervised family mediation cases for a minimum of 5 hours in total, which could include briefing and de-briefing sessions; 

2. For the purposes of calculation, the duration of any briefing session with a trainee which is not followed by any actual mediation meeting with the parties in a particular supervised family mediation case would not be counted towards the minimum of 5 hours as required; and

3. The time sheet which records the number of supervision and mediation hours, and is signed by the FMS and the trainee, could be used as a proof as to the number of supervision hours by the FMS.

Assessor

How to become an Assessor

1. attained the status of a HKMAAL Accredited Mediator or equivalent as decided at the discretion of the HKMAAL MAC; and

2. conducted a minimum of 10 mediation cases using the facilitative mediation model within the past 3 years acting as a mediator, of which 2 mediation cases should be conducted in the past 12 months; and

3. attended and passed the HKMAAL Assessors Forum to familiarize with the new accreditation regime adopted by HKMAAL; and

4. (a) coached 10 role plays of a minimum of 1 hour per role play in the past 2 years in Stage 1 Mediation Training Courses approved by HKMAAL or having obtained an equivalent experience as determined by the HKMAAL MAC

or

    (b) conducted Stage 1 Mediation Training Courses as a Lead Trainer or an Assistant Trainer on 2 occasions in the past 2 years or having obtained an equivalent experience as determined by the HKMAAL MAC.

5. The HKMAAL MAC may take into consideration any other relevant experience where appropriate.

6. In order to maintain the panel membership of an Assessor, the Assessor is required to conduct 6 assessments in 3 years and to maintain their status as a HKMAAL accredited mediator.

Lead Assessor


How to become a Lead Assessor

To be admitted to the HKMAAL Panel of Lead Assessors, a person must satisfy the following requirements:

1. attained the status of a HKMAAL Accredited Mediator or equivalent as decided at the discretion of the HKMAAL MAC; and

2. conducted a minimum of 30 mediation cases using the facilitative mediation model within the past 3 years acting as a mediator, of which 6 mediation cases should be conducted within the past 12 months; and

3. (a) conducted a minimum of 50 assessments in 3 years, of which 10 assessments should be conducted in the past 12 months;

or

    (b) had experience as a Lead Assessor in HKMAAL Stage 2 Mediator Assessment Course on at least 4 occasions in the past 3 years or equivalent experience as determined by the HKMAAL MAC.

4. The HKMAAL MAC may take into consideration any other relevant experience including the experience as a Lead Trainer of Stage 1 Mediation Training Course on at least 10 occasions in the past 3 years, of which 2 courses were conducted in the past 12 months.

5. In order to maintain the panel membership of a Lead Assessor, the Lead Assessor is required to lead Stage 2 Mediator Assessment Course on at least 4 occasions in 3 years and to maintain their status as a HKMAAL accredited mediator.
